Lexus Safety System+ Keeps You on the Straight and Narrow

When considering a new Lexus, the stalwart features always come to mind: high-quality leather interiors, ultra-comfortable seats and fuel-efficient as well as powerful powertrains. Less obvious but equally important are the advanced safety systems on-hand as part of the Lexus Safety System+ suite of driver assistance technologies.

The safety features you want in your premium Lexus vehicle

There are five levels of LSS+, depending on your vehicle: LSS+, LSS+ 2.0 which adds low-light pedestrian detection and daytime bicycle detection, LSS+ 2.5 can warn you of potential hazards when making left turns, the Lexus LS-specific LSS+ A adds even more capability to help prevent four types of collisions including rear-end and head-on collisions, and LSS+ 3.0, which provides advanced safety features such as intersection support.

LSS+ is on-hand to mitigate (or completely avoid) a frontal collision with vehicles or pedestrians. Depending on the severity of the situation, LSS+ may automatically apply the brakes. This system will also automatically dim your high beams when oncoming traffic is sensed, and help you stay in your lane with audible warning and in more severe cases, steering assist.

Adding LSS+ 2.0 to the equation gets even more sensitive radar to better detect pedestrians at night. In addition to warning the driver when it comes to lane departure, LSS+ 2.0 adds improved lane marking recognition and centering capabilities, as well as the ability for the dynamic cruise control to take you down to 0 km/h and help in stop-and-go traffic.

LSS+ 2.5 can tap into the radar-based cruise control to help slow the vehicle through turns, as well as overtake slower traffic more smoothly.

LSS+ 3.0 adds the ability to prevent the driver from proceeding through an intersection – say, when making a left turn – if there are incoming hazards. It will also keep your vehicle in its lane when swerving to avoid pedestrians or cyclists and reduce speed while cruising if oncoming turns are sensed.
